The price of second-hand housing fell by 0.1% in August

The price of second-hand housing experienced a decline of 0.1% in August from the previous month and stood on average in Spain at 1,529 euros per square meter. Compared with the same month of 2015, the decline is 3.1%.

The drop came even though the price rose in eleven of the 17 autonomous communities. The biggest increase was recorded in the Canary Islands, where landlords require 1.6% more for their homes than a month ago, followed by Madrid (0.9%) and Catalonia (0.8%).

Balearic Islands, there was a rise of 0.5%, compared with increases of 0.4% in Murcia and Andalusia. The biggest drop was registered in Extremadura (-1.7%) and Cantabria (-1.7%), followed by the Basque Country (-0.4%) and Castilla y León (-0.3%).

Euskadi, with 2,508 euros per square meter, it remains the most expensive autonomy. It is followed by the Community of Madrid (2,372 euros / m2) and the Balearic Islands (1,922 euros / m2), while on the opposite side of the table are Castilla-La Mancha (904 euros / m2), Extremadura (919 euros / m2) and Murcia (1,010 euros / m2), which are the most economic communities.

By provinces, which maintained their prices in positive during the month of August were 25. The price grew by 2.8% in Lleida, followed by increases of Girona (2.5%), Las Palmas (1.9%) Palencia (1.8%), Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Cadiz and Tarragona (1.2% in all three cases).

The biggest price drop in Extremadura and Cantabria.

The biggest drop, however, was recorded in Caceres (-1.7%), Cantabria (-1.7%), Badajoz (-1.6%), Cordoba (-1.4%), Burgos and Teruel (-1.3% in both cases).

The ranking of the most expensive provinces remains uneventfully and appears headed by the Basque provinces of Guipuzcoa and Vizcaya, with 2,815 euros and 2,564 euros per square meter respectively. Behind them they lie Madrid (2,372 euros) and Barcelona (2,146 euros).
